The Americas
The Americas is a vast region that encompasses North, Central, and South America. It is home to diverse cultures, languages, and landscapes, from the frozen tundra of Canada to the tropical rainforests of Brazil. The region has a rich history, shaped by indigenous peoples, European colonization, and the struggle for independence. Today, the Americas are a vibrant and dynamic part of the world, with a thriving economy, cities, and stunning natural beauty.

We now travel west to the Americas to look at the art and architecture of two ancient cultures, the Norte Chico and the Olmecs. These early peoples were hunters and gatherers, like their counterparts on the other side of the world. The Norte Chico civilization was located in South America in present-day Peru and is known for its monumental architecture, as well as carvings of clay and animal bones. The Olmec civilization encompassed parts of present-day Mexico and Central America. The Olmecs are also known for their large architecture, but they are especially famed for their colossal heads, monumental sculptures carved out of stone.
